Frequently asked questions
BS3998 is a British Standard which provides guidance on best practice when managing established trees. All our work adheres to BS3998. All our staff are trained to this standard.
Generally tree removals should only happen where the tree is dead or dying, or poses a threat to people or property which cannot be remedied by other techniques such as crown thinning, crown reduction or pollarding.
Ideally, a healthy tree should never be felled.
We will carry out a full site assessment before any work begins and ensure that the dismantling of the tree is done without any damage to nearby structures.
Sectional dismantling is a technique whereby we remove the tree in sections, rather than all at once.
Each section may be dropped in a controlled manner or lowered to the ground using rigging techniques, until the whole tree is removed.
This process is often used in confined spaces or where the tree is near a structure which could be damaged by felling. It’s also a useful method to minimise the impact on the surrounding habitats and wildlife.
We have a strong track record of safe and successful sectional dismantling in a wide range of challenging locations.
If the tree is growing on a boundary it is likely to be considered jointly owned by you and your neighbour, therefore you must ask consent for felling the tree, or carrying out any other work on it.
If the tree is entirely within your property, then you are not legally required to seek permission. But you might want to speak to your neighbours about it before undertaking the work, just to maintain neighbourly harmony!
If you’re unsure whether the tree would be considered jointly owned, we’re happy to advise and, when necessary, refer you to a surveyor who can check the property boundaries.
If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or is in a conservation area, you will need to apply to your council before you fell the tree.
You can read more about managing trees with TPOs or which are in conservation areas by visiting the government website.
Brush will be processed through a wood chipper, whilst larger branches and stems can be processed into firewood for you to keep, or removed from site.
We are fully insured for carrying out tree felling, including Public Liability Insurance.
