Professional tree management services
It is widely considered that often the best approach for tree management is one of minimal intervention.
Trees have evolved and adapted over millennia to be as resilient as possible, however in our modern environment where we have to consider public health and safety, amenity value, excessive shading and the longevity of trees in outdoor spaces such as parks and gardens etc we have a duty to maintain them for the benefit of everyone and the trees themselves.
Tree management can be complicated and requires experience and an in depth knowledge of the arboriculture sphere. With this in mind we treat every tree as an individual, taking careful consideration the correct approach for the species, location and outcome.
See below a few of the methods of pruning and other tree management services we undertake.
Crown reduction
This method is used to reduce the overall height and span of the tree, achieved by cutting branches back to growth points that are closer to the main stem of the tree. A great option for increasing the safety of trees especially in urban environments and specimens that are in close proximity to buildings.
Crown raising
Crown raising is where the lower branches of the tree are fully or partially removed depending on their maturity. This pruning technique often improves the overall appearance of a tree and can aid in letting more light into your garden and the area underneath the tree.
Crown thinning
This is the selective removal of stems and branches usually undertaken on hardwood trees. The aim is to increase light penetration as well as air movement throughout the trees crown. This method of pruning is usually achieved without altering the overall shape and size of the tree. Rubbing and overlapping branches are selectively removed together with diseased wood, the crown is then pruned to lower its overall density. This pruning method is great for letting more light into the garden and making the tree itself safer. We often advise this as an alternative to a full removal of a healthy tree.
Tree removal, felling and dismantling
Where there is no other option, some trees have to be removed completely. We offer a comprehensive tree felling service, specialising in the removal of dangerous and difficult trees. We have a wealth of experience in all aspects of tree work, from small pruning jobs to large-scale felling operations, and we take pride in our reputation for providing a professional, efficient and friendly service.
Pollarding / re-pollarding
This is a pruning technique that involves the complete removal of the upper branches of a tree, this promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches.
The technique is usually only undertaken on younger trees to ensure that they don’t outgrow their space. Trees that have been pollarded will have to be maintained (usually bi-annually) with a re-pollard. At William Gordon Countryside Service, we have undergone the relevant training to deliver exceptional results each and every time.
